The United States has not reached an agreement with Iran regarding the payment of compensation during recent negotiations, according to Iranian officials. The issue remains a significant point of contention in the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between the two nations.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addressed the matter during a recent interview. Araghchi noted that Washington eventually recognized that no agreement could be finalized without considering Iran's position on compensation.
"They realized that no agreement would be reached without taking Iran's position on compensation into account. Consequently, the issue was rebranded and presented as a recovery plan—a fund amounting to three hundred billion dollars. I am not claiming whether this will be implemented or not," Araghchi stated.
According to the Foreign Minister, achieving a final agreement presents further challenges. "Secondly, even if a final agreement is reached, as in many other cases, there will be many disputes, problems, and disagreements until everything is settled," he added.
Araghchi further argued that the proposed aid fund is effectively equivalent to compensation. "Otherwise, there would be no point in mentioning an investment of three hundred billion dollars in Iran within the memorandum of understanding," he concluded.
The diplomatic relationship between the United States and Iran has long been characterized by complex negotiations, often involving sanctions, nuclear non-proliferation agreements, and regional security concerns. The concept of financial compensation or investment funds has frequently surfaced in discussions aimed at de-escalating tensions and addressing the economic impact of long-standing international sanctions imposed on Tehran.
