A ballistic missile launched from Iran was successfully intercepted and neutralized over the Eastern Mediterranean after entering Turkish airspace, according to an official statement from the Ministry of National Defense of Turkey.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the ministry confirmed the projectile was tracked and engaged by regional defense assets. "A ballistic munition determined to have been fired from Iran and entering Turkish airspace was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense elements stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean," the ministry stated in its official release.

The Turkish defense authorities emphasized that all necessary measures are being taken decisively and without hesitation against any threats directed at the territory and airspace of the country. The statement further noted that all regional developments are being closely monitored to ensure national security and stability.

The incident occurs amid heightened regional tensions and underscores the strategic importance of the integrated NATO missile defense architecture in the region. Turkey, a key NATO member, maintains a robust defense posture and frequently coordinates with allied forces to monitor ballistic activities in the Middle East. This interception highlights the operational readiness of the joint defense systems designed to protect the alliance's southeastern flank from long-range aerial threats.
