On June 30, Gholam Hossein Darzi, Deputy Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations, addressed the Fourth United Nations Counter-Terrorism Conference held in New York.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the diplomat stated that Iran remains at the forefront of regional and international efforts to combat terrorism.

It was noted that Darzi emphasized Iran's significant role in the defeat of terrorist organizations such as ISIS, highlighting that this struggle has been supported by regional partners. Despite the territorial defeat of ISIS, the diplomat warned that the risk of the group's resurgence remains a critical concern for global security.

During his address, the Iranian diplomat criticized the presence of foreign forces, particularly the United States, in the region. He alleged that such interventions create favorable conditions for terrorist groups and contradict the principles of international law.

Darzi also outlined Iran's domestic measures in the fight against terrorism, citing the AALCO Regional Conference held in Tehran as a key example of strengthening regional cooperation. He further stated that Iran has aligned its legislation regarding the financing of terrorism and money laundering with international standards and has acceded to relevant international conventions.

In conclusion, Gholam Hossein Darzi stressed the importance of transparency and close consultation with member states within the UN framework. He emphasized that counter-terrorism mechanisms must not be utilized for political agendas, asserting that maintaining the integrity of these processes is essential for international security.

The United Nations Counter-Terrorism Conference serves as a vital platform for member states to coordinate strategies, share intelligence, and address the evolving nature of global threats, ranging from violent extremism to the illicit financing of terrorist networks.
