Iran is currently engaged in negotiations with Russia to resume the construction of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali shared these details in a statement to the RIA Novosti news agency. The ambassador noted that the Iranian side remains in close contact with Russian officials to ensure the continuation of the project.

Jalali expressed hope that construction work at the site would resume in the near future. He emphasized that both parties are actively discussing the necessary steps for the project's implementation, focusing on the technical and logistical requirements for the next phases of the power plant.

The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, situated on Iran's Persian Gulf coast, serves as a cornerstone of the energy cooperation between Tehran and Moscow. The facility's first unit was completed with Russian assistance and began operations in 2011, becoming the first civilian nuclear power plant in the Middle East. The planned expansion, which includes the construction of additional units, is part of Iran's broader strategy to diversify its energy mix and increase its domestic electricity production capacity through nuclear energy.
