More than 22,000 people have been affected by days of torrential rainfall in India, leading to significant flooding in the state of Assam.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the "Hindustan Times," that the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has released official figures regarding the ongoing crisis.

"A total of 22,124 people have been affected by floods across the districts of Dhemaji, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Lakhimpur, and Kokrajhar. Dhemaji is the worst-hit district, with 15,483 people impacted by rising water levels. Floodwaters have inundated 96 villages and damaged approximately 1,690 hectares of agricultural land," the agency stated.

Authorities further reported that landslides have caused structural damage to homes and roads, while a significant portion of a railway bridge constructed in 1965 has collapsed due to the severe weather conditions.

Assam, located in northeastern India, is historically prone to severe flooding during the monsoon season. The Brahmaputra River, which flows through the state, frequently overflows its banks, causing displacement and economic disruption. Disaster management agencies in the region maintain constant monitoring systems to mitigate the impact of these recurring natural disasters on local communities and infrastructure.
