A large-scale special operation conducted across Georgia over the past 72 hours has resulted in the detention of 108 individuals on suspicion of drug trafficking and related crimes.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze announced the details during a special briefing. The suspects face serious charges, including the illegal acquisition, storage, and sale of narcotic and psychotropic substances, as well as the cultivation of drug-containing plants.

According to investigation materials, the majority of those detained are members of an organized criminal network specializing in drug distribution. Law enforcement agencies, acting on court orders, carried out several controlled purchases, documenting the transactions through covert audio and video surveillance. The operation successfully intercepted the domestic distribution of large quantities of narcotics sent from abroad via concealed packages. Police identified more than 600 locations, particularly in the Imereti and Adjara regions, where drugs had been stashed for distribution.

During the searches, authorities seized significant quantities of heavy narcotics, including cocaine, heroin, methadone, MDMA, and other psychotropic substances. Additionally, packaging equipment and cash suspected to be proceeds from illegal sales were confiscated as material evidence. Investigations are currently ongoing under several articles of the Criminal Code of Georgia. If convicted, the defendants face sentences ranging from 20 years to life imprisonment.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of regional law enforcement to combat the transit and sale of illicit substances across the Caucasus. Georgia has recently intensified its crackdown on organized crime and narcotics trafficking to align with international security standards and enhance border control measures. Such large-scale interventions are part of a broader regional strategy to dismantle sophisticated smuggling networks that utilize modern technology and international logistics to bypass traditional security protocols.
