According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia will be on an official visit to Beijing from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the visit is taking place at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. It is expected that bilateral relations and regional issues will be the primary focus of the discussions.
This diplomatic engagement occurs against the backdrop of rising tensions in the Middle East. Recent mutual attacks between the US and Iran around the Strait of Hormuz have significantly complicated the regional security situation. Furthermore, technical negotiations held in Switzerland regarding Israeli military operations against Iran, alongside the signing of a memorandum of understanding, are viewed as factors contributing to the heightened friction between the parties.
Since the conflicts began in February, Tehran has launched strikes on US bases located in the region. The ongoing military escalation and the instability in the Strait of Hormuz have also had a substantial impact on Saudi Arabia's oil exports. China, as a major consumer of Middle Eastern energy, maintains a keen interest in regional stability and has increasingly sought to play a mediating role in diplomatic disputes across the Middle East.
