A shepherd has lost his life in a landmine explosion while riding a horse in Azerbaijan's Fuzuli district.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the incident was recorded in the liberated territory of Ashagi Veysalli village. The victim, identified as Ramil Mashallah oglu Hajiyev, born in 1968 and a resident of the Aghdam district, died at the scene due to the blast.
Specialists from the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) were immediately dispatched to the area. The team recovered the body of the deceased and handed it over to the relevant authorities. An investigation into the facts of the incident is currently underway by local law enforcement agencies.
The liberated territories of Azerbaijan, including Fuzuli and surrounding districts, remain heavily contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance following decades of occupation. Since the end of the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020, the Azerbaijani government has prioritized large-scale demining operations to ensure the safe return of internally displaced persons. Despite ongoing efforts by ANAMA and other agencies, landmine incidents continue to pose a significant threat to civilians entering these zones before they are fully cleared and certified as safe.
