Representatives of the Finnish Border Guard have discovered another crashed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on the state border with Russia. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the report was initially released by the Yle broadcasting company.
The device was found on the icy surface of Lake Pyhäjärvi, which is situated directly on the border line. Law enforcement agencies have currently cordoned off the area where the drone fell to conduct an investigation into the origin and purpose of the aircraft.
This incident follows a statement made on March 29 by Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, who suggested the possibility of Ukrainian UAVs entering Finnish territory. The head of government had previously addressed concerns regarding potential violations of Finland's territorial integrity. The discovery comes amid heightened security measures along the 1,340-kilometer border between Finland and Russia, which has seen increased monitoring since Finland's accession to NATO and the subsequent closure of border crossing points due to regional tensions.
