Norwegian national team striker Erling Haaland has equaled a historic record in the history of FIFA World Cups.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing data from Opta, the 25-year-old forward achieved this milestone by scoring a brace in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 match against Brazil, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Norway.

With these goals, the forward has brought his tally to seven in his debut World Cup tournament. This feat matches the record set by Poland's Grzegorz Lato, who scored seven goals in his first World Cup appearance in 1974.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is being hosted across North America, represents the first time the tournament has expanded to include 48 teams, significantly increasing the number of matches and opportunities for players to set new scoring benchmarks. The tournament is scheduled to conclude on July 19.
