Officers of the Main Drug Enforcement Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan have seized more than 49 kilograms of narcotics during a series of special operations. The measures were part of the ongoing national effort to combat illegal drug trafficking and distribution within the country.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the MIA, the operation led to the arrest of two individuals. Allahshukur Ismayilzade, 35, was found in possession of 34.875 kilograms of marijuana. In a separate search, Ceyhun Sultanov, 29, a previously convicted individual, was found with 14.7 kilograms of marijuana enriched with harmful additives. Investigations revealed that the suspects had acquired the narcotics with the specific intent of selling them.
Azerbaijan maintains a rigorous stance against the illegal drug trade, frequently conducting large-scale operations to disrupt supply chains and transit routes. The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that such measures are vital for ensuring public safety and preventing the spread of psychotropic substances. Following the latest seizures, criminal cases have been initiated, and the suspects have been remanded in custody by court order as the investigation continues.
