The feature film "Arshin Mal Alan" was screened in Turkmenistan as part of the ongoing Days of Azerbaijani Culture.
The Ministry of Culture reported this to the Operative Information Center-OMM.
The film, a 1965 masterpiece directed by the renowned People's Artist Tofig Taghizade, is based on the operetta of the same name by the genius composer Uzeyir Hajibayli. Since its release, the film has garnered widespread acclaim both in Azerbaijan and internationally, remaining a staple of national cinema.
Set in early 20th-century Baku, the plot follows a wealthy young merchant named Asgar who wishes to marry. However, the traditions of the era prevent him from seeing his future bride beforehand. To overcome this, he disguises himself as a fabric peddler (an "arshinmalchi") to find the woman he loves. The film masterfully combines humor, music, and social commentary to explore themes of love and family values. The screenplay was written by Tofig Taghizade and Mukhtar Dadash, featuring a cast of Azerbaijan's most celebrated actors of the time.
Cultural exchange events, such as the Days of Azerbaijani Culture, play a significant role in strengthening diplomatic and humanitarian ties between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, fostering mutual understanding through the shared heritage of Turkic arts and literature.
