The Chinese government has firmly rejected allegations made by the US State Department regarding nuclear tests reportedly conducted in China in recent years.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media, that official Beijing has dismissed the claims as a fabrication intended to serve Washington's own strategic interests.

Speaking at a meeting of the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, Sheng Jiang, China's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for Disarmament Affairs, stated that the US allegations regarding Chinese nuclear testing are “completely groundless.”

According to China Central Television, Sheng Jiang emphasized that Beijing remains committed to the goals and objectives of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). The diplomat stressed that Washington must also adhere to its obligations regarding the moratorium on nuclear testing and support the global consensus in this field. Sheng Jiang further added that such accusations against China are “merely a pretext for the American side to resume its own nuclear testing.”

The exchange comes amid heightened global scrutiny over nuclear proliferation and the maintenance of international arms control agreements. The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1996, prohibits all nuclear explosions, for both civilian and military purposes, in all environments. While China and the United States have both signed the treaty, neither has formally ratified it, though both nations have maintained voluntary moratoriums on nuclear testing since the 1990s. This latest diplomatic friction reflects the growing strategic competition between the two powers and the fragile state of international disarmament frameworks under current geopolitical pressures.
