The Seoul Central District Court has sentenced Kim Keon-hee, the wife of a former South Korean president, to a term of imprisonment following a high-profile corruption case.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media outlets, that the court delivered the verdict during a session that was broadcast live to the public.

According to the ruling issued by the Seoul Central District Court, Kim Keon-hee was found guilty on corruption charges and sentenced to one year and eight months in prison. The court stated in its final decision that "the defendant is sentenced to a term of one year and eight months of imprisonment" for her involvement in the illegal activities cited in the indictment.

This legal proceeding follows a series of investigations into the conduct of South Korea's former first family, reflecting the country's ongoing efforts to address political corruption and maintain judicial transparency. South Korean law maintains a rigorous stance against financial misconduct involving high-ranking public figures and their relatives, often resulting in significant prison terms to uphold public trust in the nation's democratic institutions.
