President Ilham Aliyev has approved amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses regarding the illegal use of the title "lawyer."
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the new legislation establishes strict financial penalties for individuals and officials who falsely represent themselves as members of the legal profession.
According to the law, individuals who are not members of the Bar Association but use the word "lawyer" or related terms in their personal or organizational names for commercial purposes will face fines. For individuals, the penalty ranges from 200 to 300 manats, while officials will be subject to fines between 600 and 800 manats. This regulation also applies to the use of these terms in foreign languages.
The amendment aims to protect the integrity of the legal profession in Azerbaijan and prevent the public from being misled by unqualified individuals. By ensuring that only registered members of the Bar Association can use the title, the government seeks to enhance the quality of legal services and strengthen the rule of law within the country. This move follows ongoing judicial-legal reforms in Azerbaijan designed to modernize the justice system and align it with international standards.
