An Azerbaijani citizen applied for asylum in Armenia in 2025, according to the latest data from the Statistical Committee of Armenia. The applicant is identified as a male in the 35-64 age group.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the information was initially published by the factor.am news portal. The report highlights a broader trend of asylum seekers entering the neighboring country over the past year.

In total, 600 individuals applied for asylum in Armenia last year. The majority of applicants were citizens of Iran, totaling 197 people. Other significant numbers included 86 from Ukraine, 44 from Russia, 34 from Afghanistan, 34 from Egypt, 30 from Cuba, 29 from Syria, 27 from Iraq, 16 from Nigeria, and 11 from Lebanon. Additionally, seven Turkish citizens, including one minor girl and six men over the age of 35, also requested asylum.

The Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia have maintained a complex relationship characterized by decades of conflict over the Garabagh region. While a ceasefire and subsequent restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity have shifted the regional dynamic, cross-border movements and asylum requests remain rare and are typically handled under strict international legal protocols. Such incidents are often monitored by international humanitarian organizations to ensure the safety and legal rights of the individuals involved.
