Baku is set to host the Summit of Ombudspersons next month, bringing together human rights commissioners from across the globe to discuss contemporary challenges in the field.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has released an official statement regarding the upcoming event. The summit will be dedicated to the theme "Human rights in the era of artificial intelligence: opportunities, risks, and responsibilities."
The event is scheduled for June 18–19 and will serve as the conclusion of the "Human Rights Month," which runs from May 18 to June 18 in Azerbaijan. The primary objective of the summit is to contribute to the international discussion on modern human rights challenges. Participants are expected to exchange ideas and experiences regarding the integration of AI technologies, culminating in the adoption of the Baku Declaration, which aims to strengthen international cooperation among human rights institutions.
Azerbaijan frequently hosts high-level international forums to foster global dialogue on legal and social issues. The institution of the Ombudsman in Azerbaijan, established in 2002, plays a critical role in protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens as enshrined in the Constitution and international treaties. By hosting this summit, Baku continues to position itself as a significant platform for addressing the intersection of emerging technologies and global legal standards.
