As part of the Azerbaijan Culture Days held in Turkmenistan, an opening ceremony for the "Azerbaijani Literature Corner" took place at the State Library of Turkmenistan on June 7.
This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan.
Deputy Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan Murad Huseynov and Director of the National Library of Azerbaijan Karim Tahirov delivered speeches at the event. They described the establishment of the "Azerbaijani Literature Corner" at the host country's primary library as a significant cultural milestone. It was noted that this is the 19th such corner established in foreign countries. These initiatives provide both the Azerbaijani diaspora and local citizens with greater access to the works of prominent Azerbaijani literary and public figures.
The newly established corner features a diverse collection of publications covering Azerbaijan's history, culture, literature, and contemporary development. The National Library of Azerbaijan plans to take continuous steps to enrich the collection with new publications in the future.
Following the opening, a scientific conference was held at the library dedicated to the creative legacies of the renowned Azerbaijani poet, thinker, and statesman Molla Panah Vagif and the prominent figure of Turkmen literature, Magtymguly Pyragy.
The event was moderated by Ilgar Fahmi, a writer, playwright, and secretary of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union, who provided insights into the works of both poets. Karim Tahirov emphasized the exceptional role of Molla Panah Vagif in the development of realistic Azerbaijani literature and the literary language. Director of the State Library of Turkmenistan Lachin Nurmuhammedova highlighted that Magtymguly Pyragy is the founder of the Turkmen literary language and a poet who established a lasting literary school. It was noted that in 2024, an exhibition titled "Magtymguly Pyragy and the Cultural Heritage of Turkmenistan" and a gala concert were held at UNESCO headquarters to mark the 300th anniversary of the poet.
