Spanish football club Atletico Madrid has firmly opposed the potential transfer of its star forward Julian Alvarez to Barcelona. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media reports, the Madrid-based club's management has no intention of strengthening a direct competitor within La Liga.
Known as the "Rojiblancos," the club is actively exploring alternative transfer destinations for the Argentine striker. Reports indicate that Atletico is prepared to initiate negotiations with the English Premier League side Arsenal, which has shown significant interest in the player.
Atletico Madrid aims to secure between 40 and 60 million euros from the potential deal. Furthermore, the club is reportedly looking to include a player exchange or acquisition strategy involving Arsenal's center-forward Viktor Gyökeres as part of the broader transfer discussions.
It is worth noting that the 26-year-old Julian Alvarez currently holds a market value estimated at approximately 100 million euros. His existing contract with the Madrid club is valid until the end of June 2030.
Atletico Madrid, one of Spain's most historic clubs, frequently engages in high-profile transfer market activity to maintain its competitive edge in both domestic and European competitions. The strategic decision to avoid selling key assets to direct domestic rivals is a common practice among top-tier European clubs aiming to preserve their standing in the league table.
