The Patriarch of Georgia, Shio Mujiri, has been officially invited to visit Azerbaijan to discuss the future of religious relations and cooperation between Baku and Tbilisi.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, this invitation was included in a congratulatory letter sent by Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO), to the new spiritual leader of the Georgian people.
In his message, the CMO Chairman emphasized that for nearly half a century, he shared a sincere bond of friendship and brotherhood with the late Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II. "We have always strived to contribute to the further strengthening of the comprehensive ties existing between our two neighboring, friendly nations and states, especially high-level relations in the spiritual and religious spheres. I am confident that you will spare no effort to preserve and further develop the exemplary religious and spiritual relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan, as well as the fruitful cooperation between our peoples," Pashazade stated.
Allahshukur Pashazade also recalled that after both states restored their independence, the first Christian religious leader to visit Azerbaijan was Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II. "Taking this opportunity, I am honored to invite you to Azerbaijan. Your visit will be welcomed with sincere joy by all believers in Azerbaijan and will be a great honor for me personally," the letter concluded.
Azerbaijan and Georgia maintain a strategic partnership characterized by high-level political dialogue and extensive economic cooperation. Religious diplomacy plays a vital role in this relationship, as both nations promote multiculturalism and interfaith tolerance in the Caucasus region. The Caucasus Muslims Office, based in Baku, historically serves as a central religious authority for Muslims across the region, frequently engaging in initiatives to foster peace and stability between different faith communities.
