The number of fatalities resulting from operations conducted in the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific Ocean basins has seen a sharp increase. At least 126 people are now confirmed or presumed dead following intensified maritime enforcement actions against drug trafficking networks.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Associated Press (AP) released these figures citing the United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). According to official data, 116 deaths have been confirmed in at least 36 separate strikes carried out since the beginning of September 2025. The total rose to 126 after including individuals missing at sea who are now presumed dead following search and rescue efforts.

Specific incidents detailed in the report include the deaths of eight individuals who went overboard during a US-led strike on three vessels on December 30, 2025. Two additional fatalities were linked to targeted operations on vessels on October 27, 2025, and January 23. These operations are part of a broader regional security strategy overseen by US President Donald Trump's administration to curb the flow of narcotics into North America. The scale of the casualties has prompted significant international discussion regarding the legal frameworks of maritime engagements and the distinction between law enforcement and military action in international waters.
