The United States Armed Forces have conducted a strike against a vessel used for drug trafficking in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in two fatalities. The operation was carried out by the "Southern Spear" joint task force under the direction of the US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, SOUTHCOM reported the incident via its official account on the X social media platform. The strike, which took place on May 4, followed orders from Commander Francis Donovan. Intelligence data confirmed that the vessel was navigating established maritime routes used for the illegal transport of narcotics. No injuries were reported among the American military personnel involved in the mission.
The Caribbean Sea serves as a major transit corridor for transnational criminal organizations smuggling illicit substances from South America to global markets. US Southern Command regularly conducts such counter-narcotics operations in the region to disrupt trafficking networks and enhance maritime security. These missions are often part of broader international efforts to curb the influence of organized crime in the Western Hemisphere.
