Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Iran's Tasnim news agency, that the discussions centered on bilateral ties and the current geopolitical climate. During the meeting, Abbas Araghchi highlighted the historical and friendly relations between Tehran and New Delhi. He also provided detailed information regarding recent developments involving the United States and Israel, specifically concerning the risks of military escalation against Iran and its potential regional consequences.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the critical importance of maintaining bilateral cooperation, as well as the necessity of preserving regional stability and security. He stated that India remains ready to contribute to regional security efforts and peace initiatives. The talks reflect the ongoing diplomatic efforts by both nations to navigate the complex security landscape in the Middle East and South Asia.

The BRICS group—originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—has recently expanded to include several new member states, strengthening its position as a significant bloc in the global south. The two-day ministerial talks in New Delhi, which commenced on May 14, aim to address economic integration, security challenges, and the promotion of a multipolar world order. This meeting is seen as a crucial step in coordinating the positions of member states on global issues ahead of the upcoming leaders' summit.
