Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has criticized the United States for sending "contradictory signals," stating that these mixed messages are complicating the negotiation process between Tehran and Washington.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Al Jazeera and the IRIB broadcaster, Araghchi addressed the ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that Iran is not responsible for disruptions to maritime activities in the region, asserting that Tehran did not initiate the conflict and is acting solely in self-defense. The Foreign Minister further clarified that while the Strait remains open to vessels from friendly nations coordinating with the Iranian government, it is closed to "hostile states."
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most vital maritime transit points, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes daily. Tensions in the region have frequently escalated following the breakdown of international nuclear agreements and the imposition of various sanctions. This latest diplomatic friction comes as US President Donald Trump maintains a firm stance on regional security and maritime freedom, while Tehran continues to navigate complex geopolitical pressures and international relations.
