A landslide in the Shanxi province of northern China has resulted in five fatalities and left three others injured, according to local emergency services.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Xinhua, that the incident occurred on Saturday in Haoyi village, located within the Xuntun township of Linfen city, a region situated on the Loess Plateau.
The landslide caused a residential building to be completely buried under debris. During the subsequent search and rescue operation, police officers, firefighters, and medical personnel successfully recovered eight individuals from the rubble. Five of the victims were found without signs of life, while the three survivors were transported to a local hospital, where their conditions are currently reported as stable.
Landslides are a recurring natural hazard in China, particularly in mountainous regions like the Loess Plateau, where soil erosion and heavy seasonal rainfall often destabilize the terrain. Authorities in the region have launched an investigation into the specific triggers of this collapse while continuing to monitor the area for further geological instability.
