A powerful earthquake has struck off the coast of Papua New Guinea, prompting monitoring by regional authorities.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a 6.4 magnitude tremor was recorded in the region.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 191 kilometers southeast of the city of Lorengau, within the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Experts noted that the seismic event originated at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers.

Initial reports indicate that there have been no casualties, injuries, or significant structural damage resulting from the natural disaster. Local authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely.

Papua New Guinea is situated along the Pacific "Ring of Fire," a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. Due to its location on the boundary of several tectonic plates, the nation frequently experiences seismic activity, necessitating robust disaster preparedness protocols.
