The Main State Traffic Police Department of Azerbaijan has issued an official warning to road users regarding expected adverse weather conditions.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the National Hydrometeorological Service has forecasted a significant change in weather across Azerbaijan in the coming days. The report indicates that strong and occasionally intensifying winds, along with varying intensities of precipitation, are expected. Such weather conditions significantly impact road safety and create additional risks for all participants in traffic.
In response to these forecasts, the road police are calling on all drivers and pedestrians to be more vigilant and strictly adhere to traffic safety regulations. "During rainy and windy weather, drivers must adjust their speed according to the road and weather conditions, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and avoid sharp maneuvers or unjustified overtaking," the department stated. Officials also emphasized that vehicle headlights and signal lights must be in good working order, with low-beam and position lights kept on. When visibility is reduced, fog lights should be used only when necessary, and high beams should be avoided to prevent blinding oncoming traffic.
Pedestrians are also advised to exercise extreme caution under limited visibility, using only designated crossings and ensuring they are visible to drivers. The police specifically highlighted the dangers for operators of two-wheeled vehicles, including mopeds, motorcycles, and scooters. Strong winds significantly increase the risk of losing balance and overturning, posing a real threat to the riders themselves as well as other motorists and pedestrians. Responsible behavior and mutual understanding among road users play a crucial role in preventing traffic accidents during such periods.
In Azerbaijan, the Main State Traffic Police Department regularly issues such advisories during seasonal transitions to mitigate the risk of road accidents. Statistics show that adverse weather, particularly heavy rain and high winds in the Absheron Peninsula and mountainous regions, can lead to increased traffic congestion and safety hazards. The department remains in an enhanced mode of operation during such weather events to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and provide assistance to motorists in need across the Republic.
