The opening ceremony for the FIFA World Cup has officially taken place.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the event was hosted at the iconic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, the venue for the tournament's inaugural match.

The artistic segment of the ceremony featured performances by world-renowned singer Shakira, alongside prominent musicians including David Guetta, EJAE, Megan Thee Stallion, and Andrea Bocelli.

As the tournament is being jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, FIFA has announced plans to hold additional opening ceremonies in the other two host nations prior to their respective opening matches.

The World Cup officially commences today with the match between Mexico and South Africa, scheduled to begin at 23:00 Baku time. This tournament marks a historic milestone, as it is the first time 48 teams will compete for the title, expanding the competition's scale significantly compared to previous editions.

The FIFA World Cup is the most prestigious association football tournament in the world, held every four years. It serves as a global platform that unites nations through sport, with this year's expanded format reflecting the growing popularity and commercial reach of football on a global scale.
