Iranian law enforcement authorities have detained several individuals accused of conducting espionage activities using Starlink satellite equipment. According to reports from Al-Jazeera citing Iranian media, the suspects were allegedly involved in transmitting sensitive information to foreign intelligence services and hostile networks.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reported that the detainees utilized a rented apartment in the Yousefabad district of Tehran as a base for their intelligence operations. In a separate incident, another individual was apprehended in the city of Sarvestan, located approximately 80 kilometers southeast of Shiraz. Police officials stated that this individual had been collaborating with "hostile entities" to provide photographic and video documentation of strategically significant sites within the country.
Starlink, a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX, has become a focal point of tension in Iran, particularly following the government's efforts to restrict internet access. While the Iranian government maintains strict control over telecommunications, the use of Starlink terminals has reportedly increased as a means to bypass state-imposed filters. This latest wave of arrests highlights Tehran's ongoing crackdown on unauthorized communication technologies, which the state frequently associates with foreign interference and threats to national security.
