Azerbaijan has officially exempted the import of rare motor vehicles from Value Added Tax (VAT), excise tax, and customs duties. This decision opens new opportunities for enriching rare automobile collections in the country.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev has approved the legislative package adopted by the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) on February 13. The amendments cover the Tax Code, the Law "On Banks", and the Law "On Customs Tariff".
According to the existing regulations, vehicles that have their engine, body, and chassis in original condition (or restored) and have passed more than 40 years from the date of factory production carry the status of rare (vintage) motor vehicles.
Under the updated legislation, tax and duty exemptions will be regulated under specific conditions:
- The import operation must be carried out on the basis of a supporting document from the relevant state authority;
- The number of imported rare cars must not exceed 1 unit per person during a calendar year (and a total of 10 units nationwide).
These applied concessions will create conditions for a significant reduction in costs for importers bringing rare motor vehicles into Azerbaijan. This move is expected to stimulate interest in automotive history and support the preservation of technical heritage within the Republic.
Historically, Azerbaijan has shown a growing interest in classic car culture, frequently hosting international vintage car rallies and exhibitions in Baku. By easing the financial burden on collectors, the government aims to integrate Azerbaijan further into the global classic car community and encourage the conservation of historically significant transport assets.
