European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is scheduled to visit Azerbaijan and Armenia next week.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this was announced by Paula Pinho, Head of the European Commission's press service, during a briefing in Brussels.

The visit is set to begin in Baku on July 1, after which the European Commission President will travel to Yerevan.

Pinho noted that the visit to the South Caucasus countries aims to demonstrate the European Union's commitment to strengthening partnerships in the region and to express the EU's support for achieving a lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

"Peace, transport connectivity, and economic integration will be the key themes of this visit. Special attention will be paid to the development of transport links between Europe, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia," she stated.

European media have characterized the upcoming visit as a "journey along the Silk Road." Sources suggest that discussions will focus on "transport connectivity and the shifting balance of power" in the region, topics that have gained increased significance due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Ursula von der Leyen is expected to make a series of significant statements during her trip. The European Union has increasingly positioned itself as a key mediator in the normalization process between Baku and Yerevan, emphasizing the importance of regional stability and infrastructure connectivity for broader economic integration.
