European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced plans to deepen the partnership between the European Union and Azerbaijan across several key strategic areas. The announcement comes as part of her official business visit to the country.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, von der Leyen shared these intentions via her official account on the X social media platform.
"The EU believes in a bright future for the South Caucasus - a peaceful and prosperous future. We want to help build this future. I am also here to deepen the partnership between the EU and Azerbaijan, from trade to transport, from energy to the economy," she wrote.
The European Union and Azerbaijan have been actively expanding their cooperation, particularly in the energy sector. Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership in the Field of Energy in 2022, Azerbaijan has become a crucial supplier of natural gas to Europe, playing a significant role in the continent's energy security strategy. This visit underscores the EU's ongoing interest in diversifying its energy sources and strengthening economic ties with the South Caucasus region.
