Busan, a major port city in South Korea, has recorded its highest temperature in 122 years amid an ongoing intense heatwave affecting the region.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the city's temperature soared to 38.8 degrees Celsius.

This figure surpasses the previous record of 37.7 degrees Celsius, which was set in 2016 and had stood as the highest temperature since meteorological observations began in the city in 1904.

Authorities have also issued heatwave warnings for the eastern and southwestern regions of the capital, Seoul, as extreme weather conditions continue to impact the Korean Peninsula. Such heatwaves are increasingly becoming a subject of concern for meteorological agencies, which monitor these anomalies to assess the broader impact of climate patterns on urban infrastructure and public health.
