Russia and Ukraine conducted large-scale overnight air strikes, targeting each other's energy, industrial, and military infrastructure. The escalation has resulted in civilian casualties and widespread damage across multiple regions.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, a Russian drone struck a residential building in the city of Marganets, located in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, killing a three-month-old infant and injuring 11 others. In the Zaporizhzhia region, Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) targeted a shopping center and an industrial facility, leaving five people injured. Meanwhile, in the Odessa region, strikes hit a footwear factory, damaging warehouses and a canteen, which triggered significant fires.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that it successfully intercepted 124 out of 152 drones launched by Russia overnight. Conversely, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have struck facilities supporting Ukrainian military operations, including warehouses and patrol boats in the ports of Pivdennyi, Odessa, and Izmail. Furthermore, Russian air defense systems reportedly neutralized 598 Ukrainian drones over 19 regions, as well as over Crimea, the Black Sea, and the Sea of Azov.
The conflict, which intensified significantly in early 2022, continues to see both nations utilizing long-range drone and missile capabilities to degrade the opponent's logistical and industrial capacity. In a notable development, Samara region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed damage to an industrial site. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the strike targeted the "Progress Center," an enterprise associated with the Roscosmos space agency. Zelenskyy also claimed that Ukrainian forces struck the Savasleyka airbase in the Nizhny Novgorod region and an oil facility in the Leningrad region, though Russian authorities have yet to provide an official response to these specific claims.
