"Relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are developing on a solid foundation of a shared historical past, including cultural heritage. It is worth noting that the famous Russian Drama Theater, which opened in Baku more than 100 years ago, continues to operate very successfully," the Russian President stated during the event.
President Putin further expressed his gratitude to the Azerbaijani leadership for their commitment to preserving shared cultural values. "In this regard, I would like to express my gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for the support he provides to the theater's activities," he added, emphasizing that such institutions serve as vital bridges between the peoples of both countries.
The Azerbaijan State Musical Drama Theater in Derbent, Dagestan, holds a unique position as a key cultural hub for the ethnic Azerbaijani community in Russia. Derbent, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, has historically served as a crossroads of civilizations where Azerbaijani culture has flourished for centuries. The renovation of the theater is part of a broader effort to modernize cultural infrastructure in the region while maintaining the authentic traditions of Azerbaijani performing arts, which remain an integral part of the multinational fabric of the Russian Federation.
