Museums operating under the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan will hold an "Open Door" day on May 18 to mark International Museum Day. During the event, entry to the cultural institutions across the country will be provided free of charge for all visitors.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Culture stated that the initiative aims to create opportunities for the public to spend their leisure time more effectively. The project is designed to foster a deeper acquaintance with the rich history, culture, and national heritage of Azerbaijan among both local citizens and foreign guests.
International Museum Day was established in 1977 following an initiative by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The primary objective of this global observance is to highlight the vital role museums play in the development of society and cultural exchange. In Azerbaijan, this day is traditionally celebrated with special exhibitions and educational programs, reflecting the country's commitment to preserving its historical legacy and promoting its diverse arts and traditions to a global audience.
