Fenerbahce midfielder Mert Hakan Yandas, who was detained as part of an investigation into illegal betting in Turkiye, has been released from custody.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing A Spor, that the experienced midfielder appeared before a judge for the first time after being held for a period during the investigation. During the court proceedings, several of the player's colleagues and club officials were present to show their support. Following the hearing, the court ordered the cancellation of the detention measure against Mert Hakan Yandas and he was released.
The investigation into illegal betting has recently targeted several high-profile figures in Turkiye, including celebrities and athletes, as authorities intensify their crackdown on unauthorized gambling networks. Under Turkish law, participating in or promoting illegal betting operations can lead to significant legal penalties and professional suspensions. Fenerbahce, one of the most prominent football clubs in the Republic, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the long-term status of the player following his release.
