Iran’s maritime authority overseeing the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz (PGSA) has formally rejected recent statements by US officials regarding the status of the waterway. The agency asserted that claims made by the US side concerning the freedom of navigation in the strait do not reflect the reality on the ground.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this Iranian position follows a statement by US President Donald Trump, who claimed that the United States maintains "full control" over the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran, in response, maintains that the strait remains under its own oversight and management.
The Strait of Hormuz is widely considered one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints for global energy supplies. Consequently, any restrictions or political rhetoric regarding shipping in the area frequently triggers significant volatility and concern within international energy markets.
International reports indicate that Iran has tightened its oversight of vessels transiting the strait in recent months.
