Iran has executed a citizen convicted of espionage on behalf of the intelligence services of the United States and Israel. According to the Mizan news agency, the death sentence was carried out in Tehran following a judicial process that found the individual guilty of collaborating with the CIA and Mossad.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Reuters, reported that the convict was identified as Erfan Shakurzadeh. Shakurzadeh, a 29-year-old graduate in aerospace engineering, was employed at a scientific organization involved in satellite activities. He was accused of transmitting classified scientific data to foreign intelligence agencies. According to human rights organizations, the individual had been in custody since his arrest in early 2025.
Iran frequently reports the arrest and conviction of individuals accused of spying for foreign entities, particularly the US and Israel. These cases often involve individuals working in sensitive sectors such as defense, nuclear energy, or aerospace. The Iranian judiciary maintains that such measures are necessary to protect national security and prevent the leakage of strategic information to hostile powers. International human rights groups have frequently raised concerns regarding the transparency of such trials and the use of capital punishment in the country.
