Officers from the Water Transport Police Department, in coordination with representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture's Fisheries and Aquaculture Center, have apprehended an individual engaged in illegal fishing activities.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, investigations identified the suspect as a 57-year-old Baku resident, identified as N. Aliyev. The individual was caught conducting unauthorized fishing operations in the Caspian Sea, specifically within the territory of the Hovsan settlement in the Surakhani district.
During the inspection, authorities seized two fishing rods, a synthetic fishing net, and a boat equipped with a "Yamaha-25" engine. Additionally, 35 kutum fish, weighing a total of 31 kilograms, were confiscated as material evidence. The Water Transport Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
Illegal fishing, often referred to as poaching, remains a significant environmental and regulatory concern in Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and relevant state agencies frequently conduct joint raids along the Caspian coastline to protect aquatic biodiversity, enforce seasonal fishing bans, and ensure compliance with national environmental regulations aimed at preserving fish stocks.
