The final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup is setting new records in sports ticket pricing, with costs reaching unprecedented levels.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that significant changes in the financial accessibility of the world's most-watched sporting event have occurred, with the most expensive tickets in tournament history now being offered for sale.

The price for the highest-category tickets for the final has reached $10,990. This figure is approximately six to seven times higher than the prices seen during the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar. Even the most affordable seating options remain out of reach for many fans:

  • Standard seats: approximately $4,185
  • Mid-tier seats: between $5,785 and $7,380

FIFA President Gianni Infantino justified the pricing by citing exceptionally high demand. He noted that for the 6-7 million tickets available, 150 million applications were received in a short period. For the first time, the tournament is utilizing a dynamic pricing system, which allows prices to fluctuate in real-time based on market demand.

Despite the criticism, interest in the event remains massive. However, fan groups argue that traditional supporters are being pushed out by corporate interests and high-income spectators. While FIFA has introduced a limited number of $60 tickets in response to the backlash, these represent a very small fraction of the total volume. Additionally, fans are facing significant financial burdens due to rising travel and accommodation costs.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be a historic edition of the tournament, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It will be the first time the competition features 48 teams, expanded from the previous 32-team format, resulting in a total of 104 matches. The final is scheduled to take place at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19, 2026. This expansion aims to increase global representation but has also led to logistical complexities and increased commercial pressure on the organizers.
