"European, Asian, and Middle Eastern countries can play a role in resolving the situation in the Strait of Hormuz."

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a collaborative international framework to ensure freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.

"Together with other countries in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, we can play a role in creating a framework to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," the French President stated. Macron further emphasized that France has no intention of accepting either Chinese or American hegemony, stressing the importance of reducing reliance on major global powers. He noted that this approach is a continuation of the concept of strategic autonomy, which serves as the foundation of Europe's long-term strategy.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most vital maritime chokepoints, situated between Oman and Iran, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes through the strait daily, making its security essential for global energy markets. Macron's remarks come amid ongoing discussions regarding maritime security and the European Union's efforts to establish a more independent foreign policy and defense posture in an increasingly multipolar world.
