A recent survey conducted by the Media Analysis Center (MTM) has revealed a significant increase in public interest in museums across Azerbaijan.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Tehlil.az, reports that 72.6% of respondents expressed a high level of interest in visiting cultural and historical institutions. This data suggests that museums are no longer perceived merely as passive repositories of the past, but as dynamic platforms for knowledge, reflection, and the formation of national identity.
According to the survey results, history museums are the most popular among citizens, with 77.2% of respondents preferring them, while 61.2% showed a preference for art museums. The most visited institutions include the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, the National Art Museum, and the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum. The study also highlighted a geographical spread in interest; while 60% of participants were based in Baku, a significant 40% represented the regions of Azerbaijan. Furthermore, 64.1% of respondents noted that they receive information about museum activities primarily through social media, underscoring the growing role of digital platforms in cultural promotion.
In recent years, Azerbaijan has made significant strides in modernizing its cultural infrastructure and preserving its rich heritage. Museums in the country have increasingly adopted interactive technologies, such as audio guides and digital displays, to enhance the visitor experience. This shift aligns with the state's broader strategy to promote Azerbaijani culture and history both domestically and internationally. By transforming these institutions into educational and interactive hubs, Azerbaijan continues to foster a deeper connection between the public and its collective historical memory.
