US President Donald Trump has stated that the end of the war in Ukraine may be closer than many anticipate. Speaking to journalists at the White House, President Trump expressed optimism regarding the prospects for a peace agreement following recent telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to the Operative Information Center-OMM.

Reports indicate that the 85-minute telephone conversation between President Trump and President Putin focused on potential pathways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The US President characterized the discussion as a "good call." Furthermore, he noted that President Zelenskyy is also interested in a swift conclusion to the conflict, adding that this issue is expected to be a primary topic of discussion at the upcoming NATO summit.

Despite these diplomatic developments, the situation on the ground in Ukraine remains volatile. Recent reports indicate that overnight missile and drone strikes targeting Kyiv and surrounding regions resulted in at least 28 fatalities, underscoring the ongoing intensity of the conflict.

A meeting between President Trump and President Zelenskyy is reportedly planned on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara. US officials have described this potential engagement as a critical component of broader diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a cessation of hostilities. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that President Trump remains open to listening to the Russian perspective, and President Zelenskyy, in an interview with the Financial Times, described his recent communication with the US President as positive.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which began in February 2022, has remained a central focus of international diplomacy. The involvement of the United States, as a key NATO member and provider of military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, is widely viewed as a decisive factor in the potential trajectory of peace negotiations and the long-term stability of the region.
