The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan has issued a public advisory regarding extreme heat conditions expected over the upcoming weekend.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry has urged citizens to exercise caution as temperatures are projected to rise significantly, reaching up to 41 degrees Celsius in some regions, based on data from the National Hydrometeorological Service.
The Ministry emphasized that during such weather conditions, even minor negligence can lead to fires, particularly in open areas and forest zones. Furthermore, the increased demand for household appliances, such as air conditioners, to cope with the heat elevates the risk of electrical grid overload and subsequent short circuits.
In light of these risks, the Ministry of Emergency Situations calls on the public to strictly observe fire safety regulations. Specifically, the Ministry advises against overloading electrical networks in homes and workplaces, recommends regular inspection of electrical equipment, and warns against the use of open flames or smoking near agricultural fields, haystacks, and threshing floors. Additionally, yards and production facilities should be kept clear of dry grass and waste, as discarded cigarette butts, matches, or glass objects can easily ignite fires.
Citizens residing near forest areas or those planning outdoor recreation are reminded that campfires should only be lit in designated areas. Before lighting a fire, the surrounding area must be cleared of dry grass, brush, and tree debris within a 0.5-1 meter radius. Fires must never be left unattended and must be completely extinguished before leaving the site. Lighting fires during windy weather is strictly prohibited.
