The Turkish Customs Enforcement Service has confiscated narcotics valued at over 3 billion Turkish Lira, approximately 65 million US dollars. The operation marks a significant blow to international drug trafficking networks operating through the region.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing TRT Haber, that the seizure occurred during a large-scale anti-smuggling operation at the Ipsala Border Crossing in Turkey's Edirne province.
Authorities confirmed that more than one ton of illicit substances was discovered concealed within a truck attempting to transport the cargo across the border. The vehicle was intercepted by customs officials before it could exit the country.
Turkey serves as a critical transit point for international drug trafficking routes due to its unique geographical position connecting Europe and Asia. The Turkish government has intensified border security measures and customs enforcement in recent years to combat the flow of illegal narcotics, frequently conducting high-profile operations at major land and sea ports to disrupt organized crime syndicates.
