The Islamic Republic of Iran has been elected to the position of vice chair of the United Nations (UN) Commission for Social Development.

Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the IRNA agency, reports that Iran's candidacy was supported during a meeting held in New York. This selection is intended to strengthen the country's diplomatic representation across international platforms.

The Commission for Social Development is one of the primary structures operating under the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It serves as a vital global forum for addressing social challenges, promoting inclusive growth, and developing strategies for sustainable development. The commission plays a key role in monitoring the implementation of the Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action, focusing on issues such as poverty eradication, employment generation, and social integration.
